The Community Self-Care Program gives Black, Brown, and marginalized people spaces to find rest, process life, and increase their self-care. Self-care is essential for people that go through consistent stress and trauma. For Black people, this means that self-care is mandatory. So let's begin to talk and heal together.
Established in 2019, Begin to Talk LLC focuses on counseling, culturalchange consulting, and community outreach. Through our culturalchange programming, such as the Community Self-Care Program (CSP),we can enhance how people engage with mental health concepts, resources, and self-care. As such, CSP is a prevention-focused mentalhealth program designed to educate and increase engagement andutilization of self-care and mental health resources.CSP includes the following events: Community Leaders Forum, HealingBlock Party, and the Suicide Awareness Program. It also offers groupprogramming with the Self-Care Wellness Groups. If we can get you to seeyourself fitting self-care into your schedule—if we can make it real for you—then maybe you can find spaces to prioritize yourself. We are dedicatedto developing culturally responsive mental health programming andevents that bridge gaps, connect resources, educate, and engage others to participate to improve their wellness. The Healing Block Party is an annual event to increase our community's access to affordable self-care and mental health resources. The event hosts several self-care breakout sessions and provides direct access to self-care experiences, including massage, exercise, aroma therapy, yoga, fitness, dancing, and much more. The event offers all self-care services and goods
that help improve your spiritual, physical, mental, emotional, and relational well-being in one space. Additionally, we offer free self-care incentives, childcare, food, live musical performances, painting, poetry performances,
and much more. In 2024- Begin to Talk LLC will extend this concept to businesses, neighborhoods, and schools. Let’s begin to talk on your block.

Wellness groups are an excellent way to learn about mental health concepts that you can connect to your daily lives. We have designed groups to connect with topics that impact Black people and provide self-care alternatives and incentives. Group topics include self-care, stress, anxiety, depression, racial trauma, understanding messages, etc. Although Black people may go through similar life circumstances, they experience them differently. Therefore, Community Self-Care Wellness Groups are sectioned into the following population categories:
The Louisville Urban League, A Path Forward, and Begin to Talk LLC present The Community Self-care Program. This program provides Black people spaces to find rest, process life, and increase their self-care. Self-care is essential for people that go through consistent stress and trauma. For Black people, this means that self-care is mandatory. We have considered the gaps that keep us from slowing down and making space for ourselves. We offer childcare, free self-care products, and tools, discounted self-care services for program participants, and increased access to how WE heal. This program will host several events and wellness groups to support our mission to normalize healing and increase access to self-care and mental health resources.
The Healing Block Party welcomes everyone's participation. However, we strongly focus on heavily supporting Black communities and Black-only vendors within the Louisville, KY, area. To become a vendor, please register here!
